Tonight at the Gallery

We went to the opening of a show of new paintings by Laurie Danial tonight. Laurie's daughter Maria is a good friend of Iris's.

We met up with Iris's friends, Ruby, Maria and Isabel.

Here's Cleo in the car, behaving herself on the way home.

We had a very nice dinner around the corner from the gallery, at Park Kitchen (great service!). A fine night.

Dumb Cartoon

I read the daily comics and a lot of the time I have this thought: That was dumb.
Sometimes I have this thought: "Cripes, even I could write a dumber comic than that."
And so sometimes I prove than I can.

Dance Moves

These are the two moves I use when I'm out on the dance floor. If I want to "mix it up," I simply swap and use the second one first and vice-versa. Try it!

The Finch Nest

This finch nest is just outside our kitchen window, on the north side of the house and under the back porch overhang. The male sits on a nearby wire and sings. The female built the nest by herself, near as I could tell.

At the risk of violating the Prime Directive, I climbed up and took the nest photo. But to get a photo of the bird is harder. You can see her sitting there if you're at the kitchen sink. But taking a photo through that old glass is tough (that window hasn't been open since Santa Claus was president).

It sure looks like there's an egg in there.

Who Needs Cosmetic Surgery

I mixed that photo from my profile here with the photo from elementary school. Forever young! And creepy!

Some Scans

Dad looks like I just told him I was running for president.

I was once a child. As you can see, a kind and obedient lad.

Drama at the Feeder

Hood River

We went to Hood River for one of Iris's soccer games. It was a long ways to go, but beautiful. Sunshine, wind, snow, rain, hail... we had it all. There are a lot of churches in that town.

Finch Nest

A pair of house finches is building a nest -- well, to be accurate, SHE is building the nest while he spends all day singing -- just outside the north kitchen window.

The photo won't load... there will be others.

MFO's Band

We went to the Old Market Pub Friday night (where I used to rent space to make salsa -- for nine years!). Matt "F*n" Osborn was hosting a birthday party for his lovely wife Suzy. Matt and his band played. We had fun.

Mt. Tabor

Greg and I walked around Mt. Tabor the other day. It was cold.

Nixon and Bikes

Saturday afternoon we were out at Delta Park for a soccer game. It was a sunny day and warm. Before the game Cleo and Amy and I walked around a little. Near the softball diamonds two boys about 9 or 10 years old went whizzing by on their bikes.

The kid in front briefly went hands-free, tossed his hands up and flashed the peace/V-for-victory sign with both hands. He shouted back to his friend, "Look, I'm Richard Nixon!"

That's weird enough, that a kid that age would be mentioning Richard Nixon. But then Cleo and I were both surprised by the kid in the back, who shouted back: "No, Nixon was a REPUBLICAN, he didn't like bikes!"

Ha!

I came home and looked up inside the internets to see if it was true that Nixon didn't like bikes. It didn't take very long to find this piece of evidence from what I consider to be a pretty reliable coloring book:

So... it turns out those kids were liars, because here you can plainly see Nixon telling the astronauts that he likes bikes. Even Nixon would not lie to an astronaut.

Terry and the Pirates

Last week I bought the first two volumes of the complete Terry and the Pirates comics, by Milton Caniff.

Coincidentally, my pal Fritz Holznagel posted an entry this morning at the Who2 Blog about Mr. Caniff and his comics.

Where Have I Been All Week?

It was Spring Break, and Amy and I took the week off. The kids went to Timberline Lodge with their cousins and their cousins' cousins. Here's the week in pictures:

Aunt Audrey turned 80 in Eugene:

Carrie told us to come over for Easter:

We stayed at a hotel downtown while the kids were gone:

We did a lot of napping:

We took a trip up to the wildlife refuge in Ridgefield, Washington:

There are more photos in a public gallery called "March 2008" -- and Cleo and Iris's photos of their ski trip, at this place.
