Later: Darn it! The video doesn't seem to be properly synched with the audio. The audio's the important thing -- the way this TV announcer reads the transcript of the naughty text messages between the mayor and his mistress. I love the way he says "ha ha" when the transcript reads "LOL." I wonder how many hours they sat in a meeting trying to decide the best course of action.

Tonight at the Gallery
We went to the opening of a show of new paintings by Laurie Danial tonight. Laurie's daughter Maria is a good friend of Iris's.

We met up with Iris's friends, Ruby, Maria and Isabel.

Here's Cleo in the car, behaving herself on the way home.
We had a very nice dinner around the corner from the gallery, at Park Kitchen (great service!). A fine night.

The Finch Nest

This finch nest is just outside our kitchen window, on the north side of the house and under the back porch overhang. The male sits on a nearby wire and sings. The female built the nest by herself, near as I could tell.

At the risk of violating the Prime Directive, I climbed up and took the nest photo. But to get a photo of the bird is harder. You can see her sitting there if you're at the kitchen sink. But taking a photo through that old glass is tough (that window hasn't been open since Santa Claus was president).

It sure looks like there's an egg in there.

Hood River
Finch Nest
A pair of house finches is building a nest -- well, to be accurate, SHE is building the nest while he spends all day singing -- just outside the north kitchen window.
The photo won't load... there will be others.

Nixon and Bikes
Saturday afternoon we were out at Delta Park for a soccer game. It was a sunny day and warm. Before the game Cleo and Amy and I walked around a little. Near the softball diamonds two boys about 9 or 10 years old went whizzing by on their bikes.
The kid in front briefly went hands-free, tossed his hands up and flashed the peace/V-for-victory sign with both hands. He shouted back to his friend, "Look, I'm Richard Nixon!"

That's weird enough, that a kid that age would be mentioning Richard Nixon. But then Cleo and I were both surprised by the kid in the back, who shouted back: "No, Nixon was a REPUBLICAN, he didn't like bikes!"
Ha!
I came home and looked up inside the internets to see if it was true that Nixon didn't like bikes. It didn't take very long to find this piece of evidence from what I consider to be a pretty reliable coloring book:

So... it turns out those kids were liars, because here you can plainly see Nixon telling the astronauts that he likes bikes. Even Nixon would not lie to an astronaut.
